Applying CDC Guidelines to Classroom Device Deployment
July 27, 2020
Don’t:
- Permit students to crowd around laptop carts
- Send groups to retrieve devices all at once
- Share devices without disinfecting between use
- Share charging carts between student cohorts or “pods” without thoroughly disinfecting first
- Forget to consider the teacher’s risk if they must touch and distribute devices or manage deployment
- Underestimate the amount of additional time a safer deployment takes with traditional carts
Do:
- Ensure proper social distancing between students during deployment (6 feet apart)
- Separate charging stations when possible to ensure social distancing
- Individually assign each student their own device and charging shelf/slot
- Ensure the student can easily identify their device to retrieve/return their own device
- Disinfect devices daily, or between each use if they are shared devices
- Consider the teacher’s risk if they must touch and distribute devices or manage deployment
- Thoughtfully plan for the deployment and calculate the possible extra time for deployment
